Warm and friendly country pub. The prices are much higher than they were 50 years ago but still good value. Lovely evening.
This is a wonderfully atmospheric village pub in Ayot St Lawrence in rural Hertfordshire. Visited again for the first time in many years and nothing has changed--which is great. Drank excellent real ale and ate a superb cottage pie in front of a huge open log fire. Perfection!
Run by a fantastically warm and welcoming couple, Antony and his lovely wife in the kitchen. Felt like I was right at home in such a historic pub with delicious food and thirst quenching drinks quite simply a must visit establishment. In such beautiful surroundings loved the atmosphere of feeling like a local; first class country pub....Got to be visited.
Over the 30 year's I have been coming to this pub the beer has always been perfect . There is always a good selection of guest ales and the lager and cider is also well kept. We went for a family Sunday lunch and could not fault it. I had the lamb burger which came with fries and was very good 10.95. The wife had the house soup which was also very good and my sons children's meal turkey dinosaur nuggets with fries and beans was also very good. Would recommend this pub to anyone for drinks a night out or family.
Lovely location. Lovely looking pub. Great garden. Slightly expensive. Decent food, but not great for non meat eaters or those with allergies. Staff not as friendly since it change hands. Dog friendly! Children's play area. Chickens and birds in the garden.
