Holwell Hyde Heritage is named after the WWII Decoy Factory at RAF Station Holwell Hyde which later became RAF Station Panshanger and post war became known as Panshanger Aerodrome to this day. It was a former S.O.E Aerodrome operating under the guize of a decoy site as it had its own authentic Decoy Aerodrome, which was such a good copy of the deHavilland factory and aerodrome at Hatfield that many of our own pilots landed there by mistake. It later became RAF Station Panshanger and received No1 EFTS from Hatfield Aerodrome who became the main Tiger Moth trainer for new Sargeant Pilots and Pilot Officers whom once trained went on to fly every type of wartime aircraft both home and abroad. 4,800 airmen were trained at Panshanger in WWII. It also had its fair share of royal visits with King George VI. The King of the Netherlands. King of Bosnia and the Duke of Kent. The 'SK1' Panshanger Jet a 2 Seater 322mph post war plane was to be massed produced at Panshanger but it never went in to production as the prototype suffered from undercarriage problems. The Earls Court cycle track was assembled at Panshanger post war, aswell as the Police Flying Club was based at Panshanger also.
